Frequently asked questions
Alltrust offers three IRA options: a Traditional IRA Savings account, a Roth IRA Savings account, and IRA Certificates. Each is designed to help members build retirement savings with the tax strategy and flexibility that fits their goals.
With a Traditional IRA, your contributions may be tax-deductible and your earnings grow tax-deferred, meaning you pay taxes when you withdraw funds in retirement. With a Roth IRA, you contribute after-tax dollars, but your earnings can grow tax-free and qualified withdrawals may also be tax-free. The right choice depends on your current income, tax situation, and retirement goals.
To contribute to either a Traditional or Roth IRA Savings account, you must have taxable compensation. Roth IRA contributions also have IRS income limits. There is no age restriction to contribute as long as you have taxable compensation. IRA Certificate eligibility depends on the type of IRA you hold and current IRS guidelines.
Yes. All Alltrust IRA accounts, including Traditional IRA Savings, Roth IRA Savings, and IRA Certificates, are federally insured by the NCUA and also covered by MSIC, giving your retirement savings an added layer of protection.
Early withdrawals from a Traditional or Roth IRA may result in IRS penalties in addition to any applicable taxes. Early withdrawal from an IRA Certificate before its maturity date may also result in a penalty. Alltrust recommends speaking with a team member or a tax consultant before making early withdrawals.
